Germany has declared Iran as a terrorist organization by banning Hezbollah-backed activities

  • Hezbollah is a militant political Shia Muslim group in Lebanon.
  • Hezbollah, which in Arabic is named ‘Party of God’, was founded in 1982 after the First Israel-Lebanon War.
  • The group currently has political and military ties with Syria and Iran and has been designated as a terrorist group by the United States and other Western countries.
  • The political branch of Hezbollah is intimately involved in Lebanese politics. Hezbollah opposes the West and Israel and strives to establish an Islamic state in Lebanon based on the Iranian model.
  • It is mainly spread in the Shia dominated areas of southern Beirut, southern Lebanon and the Bekaa Valley.
  • The Iranian Islamic Revolution in 1979 was instrumental in the establishment of this group and it received military support from Iran during the Israeli invasion of Lebanon in 1982.
  • Currently Hezbollah remains a political force with many representatives in the Lebanese parliament and is still supported by the Lebanese Shia population as well as Syria and Iran.
