Nissan Motor to shut down Indonesia, Spain plants due to losses

Nissan plans to shut Indonesia, Barcelona plants, silent on future of India operations

Tokyo Japan's leading auto company Nissan Motor Company will close its Indonesia and Spain plants due to losses. The company has incurred losses for the first time in 11 years, due to dwindling global demand and production disruptions due to the Kovid-19 epidemic. Nissan chief executive Mokoto Uchida said on Thursday that it would limit its European production to the Sunderland plant in Britain. Nissan Motor Company, however, has not said anything on the future of its business in India.

The company will relocate its Indonesia plant to Thailand. The company has announced a 20 percent reduction in its global production. Nissan Motor Company incurred a loss of $ 6.2 billion in the financial year ended in March. This is the first time since 2009 that it has incurred losses.

The Spanish government has said that Japanese auto company Nissan Motor Company has decided to close its manufacturing plant in northeastern Catalonia province, which will result in the employment of 3000 employees. The Spanish Ministry of Industry said in a statement on Thursday that despite the proposal to keep the plant running, we regret the company's decision to close it and we urge the carmaker's company to consider other options.
