IGI Airport getting ready to operate domestic flights from 25 may

The IGI airport of the national capital has implemented various measures like deployment of UV technology to clean the bags etc. at Bodring and bus gates to promote healthy and safe air travel. Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL), which runs IGIA, said that domestic flight operations would start from Monday, 25 May.

These services were suspended for nearly two months following a nationwide shutdown due to the Kovid-19 epidemic. According to DIAL, a number of measures have been implemented, including automatic hand sanitizer machines, floor markers for passengers at places such as entrances and check-ins at the airport. These new machines and protocols are designed to comply with social distance norms and reduce human interaction at airports.

63 days after the lockdown in the capital Delhi, IGI Airport will initially fly only one of the three Terminal-3. Airport operator company Dial has installed modern equipment with UV range for sanitization here. UV tunnel has been installed at Delhi Airport to check baggage and other belongings. There are UV hand held devices, mobile UV towers and mats for sanitizing shoes. 700 UV lamps have been installed for air quality. 336 automatic hand sanitizer dispensers are installed. About 1300 flights take off daily from here. It has more than 800 domestic flights. According to an estimate, initially more than 200 aircraft will take off.

IANS was first informed about the new machines being installed at the airport and other measures. An IANS TV video provided detailed information about the new measures, which are being adopted at IGI. Videha Kumar Jaipuriyar, CEO, DIAL said, We have taken many unique initiatives at the airport to ensure the safety of passengers without compromising their convenience and experience.

"Our teams have worked round the clock to clean the huge terminal to provide hygiene status," he said. Even after being declared closed at the national level, IGI Airport has made a significant contribution in restoring major medical supplies across the country and evacuating Indians from abroad. The airport has been busy in other essential services except for normal passenger services even in this crisis.

The Center had on Thursday asked for the resumption of domestic passenger flight services. However, airlines are permitted to operate a limited number of passenger flight services from May 25 for operations between metro cities and other destinations. During this time only one third of the flights will be operated. After this, this capacity can be increased in the coming time. Passenger air services for both domestic and international flights were suspended from March 25 due to the implementation of a nationwide shutdown in the wake of the Kovid-19 outbreak. (Input-IANS)
