New Delhi. Uber, which provides app-based cab services, said on Monday that it has taken several measures, including making masks mandatory for passengers and drivers, to ensure safety amid the ongoing outbreak of the corona virus epidemic. The fourth phase of lockdown has started since Monday. In this, the states and union territories have been given the power to decide on the distribution of regions into different categories. Depending on the decision of the states, companies like Uber and Ola will be able to resume services in various locations.

Sachin Kansal, senior director (product management), Uber Global, told reporters that from today (Monday), passengers and drivers will inevitably wear face masks wherever Uber operations begin in India. He said that this is part of the specific safety features and policies being introduced to ensure the safety of drivers and riders. It is noteworthy that the lockdown is in force in the country from 25 March. Its fourth phase has started from Monday. Since the lockdown began, the operation of cabs and taxis in the country was banned.

Although some restrictions were relaxed in the third phase lockdown that began on May 4, cabs and taxis were allowed to operate in some areas. Uber had announced in the third phase to start operations in 25 cities including Jamshedpur, Kochi, Cuttack and Guwahati (Green Zone) as well as Amritsar, Rohtak, Gurugram and Visakhapatnam (Orange Zone).
