new Delhi. The central government is exploring the possibility of restarting the export of alcohol-based hand sanitizers. The Central Drug Controller has sought details of manufacturers and their production capacity of alcohol-based hand sanitizers from states and union territories. The regulator has asked them to give these details by Friday afternoon, so that it can be known whether they are in a position to meet the domestic demand. The government had banned the export of alcohol-based hand sanitizers to ensure their availability in the domestic market, amid a sharp rise in Corona virus cases in the country.

The Controller General of India has sent a letter to the drug controllers of states and union territories on Wednesday seeking details of hand sanitizer manufacturers. They asked for the name and address of the manufacturers, average production capacity, details of actual production in April. DGCI has also sought information on whether these companies are able to meet the domestic demand. Do the manufacturers have sufficient supplies and are the raw materials like ethanol and isopropyl alcohol readily available. The letter states, "Details of hand sanitizer manufacturers available to assess the current state of production due to Kovid-19, availability in the domestic market, if there is surplus production, what can be exported, etc. Be made.
