new Delhi. Indian Railways, which began booking for 15 pairs of special trains nearly two months after the suspension of passenger, mail and express train services, earned Rs 16.15 crore from over 45,500 tickets booked on Monday. Officials gave this information. Railways has started online booking of 15 pairs of special air-conditioned trains on its IRCTC website from 6 pm on Monday evening. A senior railway ministry official said that on Monday, tickets worth Rs 16.15 crore were sold with 45,533 PNRs.

He said that a total of 82,317 people would travel in the first week with these special AC trains for 45,533 PNR. On Sunday, the railways had announced to partially operate 15 pairs of special trains from May 12.

Railways has asked passengers to arrive at the railway station 90 minutes before the departure of the train. Thermal screening of passengers will be done before entering the station premises. The official said that it has been made mandatory to wear masks. Passengers have been encouraged to carry blankets, water and food with them for the journey.

Railways have set special criteria for air conditioning inside coaches and the temperature will be kept slightly above normal. The official said that special trains will run at full capacity, but the railway zone has been instructed to ensure separate entry and exit gates at the stations, so that passengers do not encounter or face contact during movement. For now, the Indian Railways has released a timetable for trains running between 12 May to 20 May. They will run as daily, weekly or bi-weekly trains.

These trains will run between New Delhi and all major cities of the country, including Dibrugarh, Agartala, Howrah, Patna, Bilaspur, Ranchi, Bhubaneswar, Secunderabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, Thiruvananthapuram, Madgaon, Mumbai Central, Ahmedabad and Jammu Tawi.
