government allowed use of old sack plastic bags for grain purchase

new Delhi. Food Minister Ram Vilas Paswan said that the government has allowed grain to be kept in old sacks and plastic bags during the current procurement season for wheat and other crops. The Food Corporation of India (FCI) was facing problems regarding the availability of jute sack during the grain purchase due to corona virus and lockdown.

Paswan said the ministry has set up a task force which will assess the situation. He said that the Ministry has given some relaxation in the rules regarding the keeping of grains, especially wheat and permission has been given to use sacks or plastic bags.

Paswan said that most of the supplies of jute bags are from West Bengal. FCI procures grain from farmers at the minimum support price. FCI is the apex agency of the Central Government in this matter.
