Bhopal gas leak in Visakhapatnam, know everything about LG Chemicals

LG Polymers India Private Limited visakhapatnam

Visakhapatnam. The poisonous gas leak on Thursday from a chemical plant in Visakhapatnam once again reminded the nation of the Bhopal gas scandal. Let's know about the company from where the gas leaked. The company was founded in 1961 in Visakhapatnam, India as Hindustan Polymers and produces polystyrene and its allied polymers.

In 1978, it merged with McDowell & Company Limited, a UB Group company. LG Chemikal of South Korea saw India as an important market and identified Hindustan Polymers as a suitable company to enter the Indian market under its aggressive global expansion plan.

LG Chemicals acquired it 100 percent in 1997 and renamed Hindustan Polymers as LG Polymers India Private Limited (LGPI). LG Chemicals has a very strong presence in the stylerics business in South Korea and the company plans to establish an equally strong presence in the Indian market through its existing PS and EPS products. Currently, LGPI is the leading manufacturer of polystyrene and expandable polystyrene in India.
