Lockdown: Railways runs 2067 parcel trains so far, generates nearly Rs 20 cr revenue

new Delhi. Indian Railways said on Wednesday that it has transported 54,292 tonnes of goods through 2,067 special parcel trains during the ongoing lockdown period, generating an income of Rs 19.77 crore.

According to a Railway Ministry release, regular railway zones identify and notify the route for these trains and currently such trones are being operated on 82 routes. These routes include major cities such as Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Bangalore and Hyderabad.

These trains connect the capitals to important cities within the states and also connect to the northeastern part of the country. Railways said that trains carrying this parcel service would send milk and dairy products from surplus producing areas like Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh to areas with high demand. Apart from this, other essential items like agricultural costing materials, medicines, medical equipments are sent from the producing area to other areas of the country.
