Income Tax department warns against fake message

New Delhi. The Income Tax Department has warned income taxpayers from a 'phishing' email promising a refund. The department tweeted on Sunday, alerting the taxpayers that they should not click on any link that promised a refund. These messages have not been sent by the Income Tax Department.

According to the latest data, during April 8-20, the department has issued 14 lakh refunds of more than Rs 9,000 crore to taxpayers of various categories. These include individual, Hindu undivided families, proprietors, firms, corporate, start-ups and small and medium enterprises (SME) category income tax payers. On April 8, the Finance Ministry said that it would expedite the process of issuing income tax refunds to the people and companies affected by Kovid-19. The Ministry had said that the work of issuing pending refunds up to five lakh rupees would be expedited. This will benefit 14 lakh taxpayers.

The government continues to issue warnings to people on time to fraud. Online fraud has also increased in recent times as Internet trend has increased. Presently, in view of the Corona crisis, it is speedily issuing refunds of taxpayers, which is also mentioned in the media. In view of this, fraudsters have also become active and are trying to steal people's information and money in the name of refund.
