Supreme Court directs Vijay Mallya to appear in court by 5 October

new Delhi. The Supreme Court has asked fugitive businessman Vijay Mallya to appear in court on 5 October. Along with this, the court has directed the Ministry of Home Affairs to make necessary arrangements to present Vijay Mallya in the court. The court has given this order after dismissing the review appeal filed by Vijay Mallya on the order of 14 July 2017. In this order, the Supreme Court has held Vijay Mallya guilty of contempt. According to that order, Vijay Mallya did not pay the 9000 crore dues of the banks despite the court repeatedly saying. The court has ordered that they should appear before the court on October 5 at 2 pm.

Along with this, the court has asked the Ministry of Home Affairs to ensure the appearance of Vijay Mallya. A copy of the order has been sent to the Ministry of Home Affairs. The Supreme Court had said in the previous order that a judgment on Vijay Mallya can be pronounced only when the government extradite him to India, and present him before the court. Mallya's appeal against extradition to the UK court has been dismissed, following which there are hopes of his being brought to India.
