new Delhi. With the success of the Galaxy A71 and A51 devices, Samsung topped the premium smartphone market in India (Rs 25,000–50,000) in the first half of this year. A new report announced this on Friday. According to the CMR India mobile handset review report, South Korean tech giant Samsung captured 37 percent market share during the first six months of 2020.
Along with this, Apple continued its impressive performance in the premium segment, with a 26 percent market share (year-on-year) growth of 14 percent in the country. In the premium segment, OnePlus has secured the third position with 15 percent market share in the first half of 2020.
Due to the epidemic, the first half of 2020 has been a difficult period for the entire smartphone industry in general, with many challenges, said Anand Priya Singh, Industry Intelligence Group (IIG) analyst at CMR. However, the premium smartphone segment remained one of the least affected areas. In fact, this segment continued to grow due to strong consumer demand and good supply.
Overall, smartphone sales (shipments) in the premium segment grew 18 percent year-over-year during the first half of 2020 in the country. The segment accounted for five percent of total smartphone shipments in the January-June period. Samsung's dominance in the overall premium smartphone segment was made possible through good supply, attractive discounts and smart channel strategies.
The Samsung Galaxy A71 emerged as the star in this segment, contributing 19 percent to this segment. For Apple, the iPhone 11 continued to receive good market response in the early part of the year. According to the report, India's premium smartphone segment is expected to grow 20 percent year-on-year in the second half of 2020. During this festive season, many new devices are expected to be introduced by various tech giants.
