Airtel, Vodafone lose 4.7 million user each in may

new Delhi. Bharti Airtel and Vodafone Idea have lost between 47-47 lakh subscribers in the month of May. At the same time, the number of subscribers of Reliance Jio has increased by 37 lakhs. This information has been provided by the data released by TRAI. At the same time, there has been a decline of 0.5 percent in the number of wireless subscribers during May, which includes 2G, 3G and 4G subscribers. The main reason for this decline in numbers was the large number of laborers returning to their homes in the villages due to the epidemic. Apart from Jio, BSNL also added new customers during this period. The number of subscribers of BSNL increased by more than 2 lakhs during May.

According to data released by TRAI, the total wireless subscriptions decreased by 5.6 million in the month of May. Their number in cities has come down from 62.9 crore to 62 crore level. There was an increase in their numbers in the villages. Subscriptions have increased from 52 crores to 52.3 crores at the end of May. According to TRAI, the monthly wireless subscriber growth in the rural subscriber base has been recorded at 0.7 per cent, while the number of fixed line subscribers has also come down from 1.99 crores to 1.97 crores during May.

Earlier, there was a downward trend in April. During this period, the number of subscribers had decreased by 82 lakhs. According to experts, this trend of declining subscriber has the effect of corona epidemic. In fact, due to the lockdown, in April and May, a large number of workers left the cities and went back to their homes. On the other hand, due to the impact on income due to lack of employment, subscription has also been affected. Along with this, in the month of May, about 3 million mobile subscribers applied for mobile number portability. According to TRAI, the number of people applying for it has reached 49 crore by the end of May after the MNP came into force.
