RBI balance sheet up 30 percent on year

new Delhi. The size of the balance sheet of the Reserve Bank has increased by 30 percent to Rs 53.35 lakh crore in the year 2019-20. This increase in the balance sheet is due to the increase in domestic and foreign investment. The balance sheet size last year was Rs 41.05 lakh crore. This is the fastest growth in the last 13 years in percentage terms in the balance sheet. Earlier in the year 2007-08, there was a sharp jump in the balance sheet.

The increase in the asset share of the balance sheet was due to 18.4 per cent growth in domestic investment and 27.28 per cent growth in foreign investment. At the same time, debt has increased by 246 percent and gold reserve by 53 percent. As of June 30, domestic assets accounted for 28.75 percent of total assets, while foreign currency assets and gold assets accounted for 71.25 percent. At the same time, the main reason for the increase in the share of liability was due to 21.5 per cent in issue of notes, 30.5 per cent in other liabilities and provisions and 53.7 per cent in deposits. A provision of 73 thousand crore rupees was also transferred to the contingency fund.

Earlier, in 2007-08, the size of the balance sheet of the Reserve Bank had increased by 46 percent. At the same time, there has been a growth of 22 per cent in the books of the Reserve Bank of India for some time. The balance sheet size was Rs 41.05 lakh crore last year.
