new Delhi. Union Labor Minister Santosh Gangwar said that unemployment benefit claims under Atal Insured Person Welfare Scheme of Employees State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) will be settled within 15 days of application. The Board of Directors of ESIC has doubled payments under the unemployment benefit from 24 March to 31 December this year, providing relief to those who lost employment in the wake of the Corona virus epidemic.
Fifty percent of the average salary of three months will now be given under the scheme. Gangwar said that the claim under the ESI scheme for unemployment benefits will be settled in 15 days. The scheme will provide relief to those associated with ESI who lost their jobs during the Kovid-19 epidemic. Under the scheme, during the period from 24 March 2020 to 31 December 2020, a benefit equal to fifty percent of the average salary of three months would be given to the earlier 25 percent.
The minister said that now a claim for benefits can be filed after 30 days of employment. Earlier it was possible to do it after 90 days. Now employees can claim on their own when previously they had to apply through the employer. Gangwar is also the Chairman of the ESIC Board.
He appealed to the people under the scheme to take advantage of it. About 40 lakh industrial workers are expected to benefit from this decision taken in the meeting of ESIC Board on Thursday. The ESIC Board has approved increasing the payment under unemployment benefits under the Atal Insured Person Welfare Scheme and relaxed the eligibility criteria.
