Rupee ends 6 paise lower at 74.90 per dollar

new Delhi. The rupee closed on Friday against the US dollar amid weakness in the domestic stock market. In the last trading session of the week, the rupee fell six paise to close at 74.90 against the dollar. In today's trading, the rupee opened at 74.85 against the US dollar with limited weakness against the previous levels in the interbank foreign exchange market and then closed at 74.90 showing weakness, indicating a fall of six paise against the previous closing price of 74.84. The rupee touched a high of 74.74 and a low of 74.93 in day trading.

Meanwhile, according to official data, inflation based on wholesale prices remained negative at 0.58 per cent in July, though prices of food items rose during this period. WPI inflation was negative at 1.81 percent in June. The dollar index, showing the position of the US dollar against six major currencies, was down 0.05 percent at 93.29. According to stock market data, foreign institutional investors on Thursday bought shares worth Rs 416.28 crore in the capital market on a gross basis. Meanwhile, Brent crude futures fell 0.67 percent to USD 44.66 a barrel.
