Nitin gadkari calls for global investment in highways, MSME sector

new Delhi. Union Minister Nitin Gadkari on Wednesday called on international institutions and investors to increase investment in the Indian highway and micro, small and medium industries (MSME) sector. The MSME ministry said this in a statement. Gadkari has charge of both the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways and the Ministry of MSME. He was addressing the India-Australia Chamber of Commerce and women innovators on business investment for cooperation in highway infrastructure and MSMEs. According to the statement, Gadkari also drew attention to the steps taken for road safety in the country. He said that the country has set a target of zero fatalities in road accidents by 2030.

According to the statement of the Ministry of MSME, Gadkari described the vehicle and MSME sector as two engines for the country's economic growth. He said that India and Australia are already cooperating in the field of road safety. This has helped in better design of roads and to make people aware. Gadkari said that under the Indian Road Safety Assessment Program, 21,000 km of roads have been reviewed on safety standards. At the same time technical upgradation of about 3,000 km of road is being done. He said that this technological upgradation of roads will reduce road accidents by 50 percent. By 2030, zero fatalities have been targeted in road accidents in the country. Gadkari said that his ministry has taken several steps to reduce road accidents. The World Bank and the Asian Development Bank have committed seven-seven thousand crore rupees for this campaign.
