G C Murmu sworn in as CAG

new Delhi. Former Lt. Governor of Jammu and Kashmir Girish Chandra Murmu on Saturday took oath as the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) of India. The swearing in ceremony took place in the presence of the President and Prime Minister at a simple ceremony held at Rashtrapati Bhavan.

A release issued by Rashtrapati Bhavan said that Murmu took the oath of office before President Ram Nath Kovid. Murmu was sworn in as a CAG in a ceremony held at Ashoka Hall of Rashtrapati Bhavan. According to the release, Murmu, a 1985-batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer of Gujarat cadre, will be serving as a CAG till 20 November 2024.

The CAG is a constitutional post that has the primary responsibility of auditing the accounts of the central government and state governments. CAG's audit reports are tabled in Parliament and State Legislatures.
