govt extends Ajay Tyagi's term as SEBI chairman

new Delhi. The government has approved the extension of the tenure of Sebi chairman Ajay Tyagi to 18 months. Ajay Tyagi will now continue as the Sebi chief till February 2022. Earlier, the Sebi chief got a 6-month extension in service.

The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved the extension of service period to 18 months for the post of Chairman of Securities and Exchange Board of India i.e. SEBI by Ajay Tyagi. The extension of service will be effective from September 1 and Ajay Tyagi will continue in this post till 28 February 2022. Tyagi was appointed as the chairman of SEBI on 10 February 2017, replacing UK Sinha. He held the post since March 1, 2017. Tyagi is a 1984 batch IAS officer of Himachal Pradesh cadre.

Ajay Tyagi handled the Capital Markets, Investment, Infrastructure and Currency departments under the Ministry of Finance before taking up the post with SEBI. He has done graduation in Electrical Engineering and post graduation in Computer Science. At the same time, he has also received a master's degree in public administration from Harvard University.
