Apple confirms new iPhone will be delayed

Apple's Chief Financial Officer Luca Mistry has confirmed that the new 2020 iPhone is unlikely to be launched in September. According to Mistry, as they usually do, Apple began selling iPhones in late September last year, but this year the supply of company projects will be available only a few weeks later. The company has not given any statement about why the delay is being done. However, it is believed that this decision has been taken due to the impact on the supply chain due to the Corona crisis.

"Last year we started selling the new iPhone at the end of September, this year we expect the supply to be available only a few weeks later," Mistry said in an earnings call on Thursday. He further noted that Apple's other products category apart from iPhone is likely to witness tremendous sales, especially due to the reopening of schools due to the shopping season. The Wall Street Journal also said in April that mass production work for the new iPhone had been pushed back nearly a month. Recently, Qualcomm had indicated that there may be a delay in launching the iPhone 12 in September. It said that there would be a slight delay in the launch of a flagship phone in the fourth quarter. Apple is expected to launch four new iPhones under the iPhone 12 series which will include two premium variants this year.

This is not the first time that iPhone shipments have been delayed despite the launch in due time. The iPhone 8 and iPhone XR were also delayed, although technical reasons were responsible for this. Currently, new cases of corona are increasing in the US, while China is also taking all possible steps to stop the second wave of virus. These two are the most important markets for Apple in terms of sales.
