License for stocking and sale of hand sanitiser no longer required, relaxes export criteria for face shields, surgical masks

new Delhi. The Union Health Ministry has decided to abolish the condition of licensing required for sale and stock to ensure easy availability of hand sanitizers for people in the Kovid-19 epidemic. According to the official notification, the Ministry has abolished the condition of obtaining license under the provisions of Drugs and Cosmetics Rules. The notification states that retailers must ensure that they are not sold or stocked after expiry date.

The Ministry had received a number of applications seeking to free the hand sanitizer from the cell license. As per the notification issued on 27 July, the Central Government has recognized that hand sanitizers are required to meet the emergency needs arising out of the Kovid-19 epidemic and it is in the interest of the people to ensure its easy availability.

Face shield, Surgical mask, Relief given in export rules of medical spectacles

The government on Tuesday relaxed the rules for export of face shield, certain types of surgical masks and medical spectacles, which are in high demand due to the corona virus epidemic. The government has completely exempted the export of face shield, permitting the export of 2/3 layer surgical masks and medical spectacles with certain conditions. Earlier, the export of 2/3 layer surgical masks, medical glasses and face shield was banned due to Corona virus epidemic.

The export of these masks and goggles has been removed from the restricted category and included in the blocked category, which means that the export of these goods will need permission from the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT). The DGFT has stated in a notification that the export policy of 2/3 layer surgical masks, medical spectacles has been reduced from the restricted category to the restricted category and the export of face shield has been brought to the free category.

The notification states that the monthly export quota for the 2/3 layer surgical mask has been fixed at four crore units. Similarly, a quota of 20 lakh units per month has been fixed for medical spectacles. These products are in great demand due to the Kovid-19 epidemic.
