ED books arms dealers sanjay bhandari in fresh money laundering case

new Delhi. The Enforcement Directorate has filed a money laundering case against the defense consultant Sanjay Bhandari, a fugitive, for allegedly taking US $ 49.9 million from South Korean Samsung Engineering Company Limited (SECL) in 2009. Officials gave this information on Monday. It is alleged that the money was given by SECL to Bhandari's firm for awarding a Rs 6,744 crore contract to OPAL's Gujarat-based unit promoted by some public sector oil companies including ONCG. He said that OPAL in turn awarded the project to a group led by SECL and a joint group of Linde of Germany. He said that the Central Investigation Agency has filed an Enforcement Case Information Report (ECIR) under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), which is equivalent to a police FIR, to investigate these deals. He said that earlier this month, the CBI had registered a case against Bhandari and others in this case.

This is the second money laundering case against Bhandari. Earlier in February 2017, the Enforcement Directorate had filed a case against him for allegedly possessing benami property abroad. The ED had filed a charge sheet in this case in June. In the latest case, the CBI alleges that Bhandari, as a director of Centec Sentech International, had a criminal conspiracy with SECL, taking US $ 49.99 lakh as consulting fee, a breach of contract between the Korean company and Opel. . He reported that the alleged consulting fees were received in Centec International's foreign accounts. The agency has alleged that the consultancy fee was used to bribe the officials to award the contract for the dual fuel cracker of Opel to be set up at Dahej Petrochemical Complex in Gujarat in favor of SECL.
