New rules for electronic retailers

new Delhi. Union Minister Ram Vilas Paswan said on Monday that the new rules for electronic retailers will come into effect from this weekend. Under this, it will be mandatory to give many details on their product including their country of production / manufacturing. There are provisions for punishment for those who violate these rules. He said that the 'Consumer Protection (E-Commerce) Rules, 2020' would apply to all electronic retailers (e-tailers) registered in India or abroad. Consumer Affairs Minister Paswan told reporters in a video conference, "Most of the rules made under the Consumer Protection Act 2019 have come into force from today (Monday). However, the e-commerce rules will be notified by the end of this week, while the rules for direct selling business will take some more time. "

He said that e-commerce rules are of "compulsory nature". Violation of these would have to bear the penalties prescribed under the law by the Consumer Protection Authority and the Consumer courts. The rules have been finalized so that they do not violate the overall e-commerce policy. As per the rules, e-commerce companies will have to display the total 'price' of the goods and services offered for sale with different details of other charges. It will be mandatory to give them the period of expiry of the deadline for safe use of goods to be sold and the country of origin of goods and services. This will enable consumers to make informed decisions before purchasing.
