new Delhi. The telecom regulator's investigation of the premium plan to provide 4G networks on a priority basis is a top priority for the telecom regulator and will finalize its stand on the matter in the next two weeks. A source in the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) said this. The Telecom Disputes Settlement and Appellate Tribunal (TDSAT) on Friday stayed TRAI's recent order in the Vodafone Idea case. TRAI in its order had asked the company to stop offering 4G networks on priority basis under the priority plan RedX. However, the TDSAT also made it clear that TRAI should investigate the matter and after finalizing the need for natural justice, give the final order as per the law at the earliest. Vodafone Idea Ltd (VIL) was also asked to be given a chance to clarify its position in the case.
The TRAI source told PTI-language that review of the plan is a top priority for the regulator and in this case it will finalize its views in about two weeks. The source said that a lot will depend on the extent to which TRAI gets information and data from VIL and Bharti Airtel. The sooner the regulator decides its final position on the matter. Bharti Airtel had also brought a similar scheme which is under investigation. It may be noted that VIL had filed an application in the Tribunal last week challenging the Telecom Regulatory and Development Authority (TRAI) directive, which had asked the RedX Priority Plan to be deferred till the matter is reviewed. The scheme offers to provide 4G network on priority basis to some customers. TRAI had asked both VIL and Bharti Airtel whether some specific customers would be given preference in the network at the cost of lack of service to other customers.
