CIL's coal supply to power sector drops over 22%

new Delhi. Public sector Coal India supplied 935 million tonnes of coal to the power sector in the first quarter of the current financial year, which is 21.7 percent lower than the same quarter of the previous fiscal. According to the latest report of the Ministry of Coal, Coal India Ltd. (CIL) had supplied 11.95 million tonnes of coal to the power sector in the April-June quarter of the last financial year. The coal shipped by the Maharatna company last month was 3.094 million tonnes. This is 19 percent less than the 3814 million tonnes shipped in the month of June 2019.

Singareni Collieries Company Ltd. (SCCL) supplied 72.8 lakh tonnes in the first quarter of the current financial year, which is 48 per cent lower than the 1399 million tonnes shipped in the same quarter of the previous fiscal. Coal India said last week that the situation will remain uncertain even in the July-September quarter as some states are again putting a 'lockdown' in view of rising cases of Kovid-19. Coal production in some major mines is still affected. The reason for this is high coal reserves and low lift. The public sector coal company produced 1880 million tonnes of coal from July 1 to 16. Whereas 1961 million tonnes of coal were produced in the same period a year ago.
