Sowing of kharif crops has been done in about 692 lakh hectares across the country, which is 21% more than last year. This year, the monsoon kindness and good rains all over the country have helped the farmers in sowing of kharif crops and the area of ​​all major kharif crops has increased from last year.

According to the data of sowing released by the Union Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare on Friday, so far in the current kharif season, 691.86 lakh hectares of kharif crops have been sown, which is 21 percent more than the 570.86 lakh hectares in the same period last year. .

Sowing of coarse cereals including paddy, pulses and oilseeds, the major crops of the Kharif season, has increased compared to last year. The area under tur in pulses crops has increased by 37.74 per cent to 30.84 lakh hectare as compared to the same period last year. At the same time, the area under urad has been increased to 25.43 lakh hectares and moong sown area is 20.98 lakh hectares. The area under all pulses crops has increased 61.70 per cent to 81.66 lakh hectare over the previous year. At the same time, the area under oilseeds has increased by 40.75 percent to 154.95 lakh hectares.

Sowing of paddy, the main kharif season crop, has been done in 168.47 lakh hectare, an increase of 18.59% over the same period last year. The area under coarse cereals has increased by 12.23 per cent to 115.60 lakh hectare since last year. In the current monsoon season till July 16, the country received 338.3 mm of rainfall, which is 10 percent above the average.
