new Delhi. Telecom Disputes Settlement and Appellate Tribunal on Friday stayed the interim directive of TRAI's Vodafone Idea not to implement its priority plan. In this scheme, it was said to provide 4G network facilities to certain categories of customers on priority basis. This decision of the tribunal has given temporary relief to Vodafone Idea Ltd. (VIL). Earlier this week, VIL had approached the tribunal challenging the Telecom Regulatory and Development Authority (TRAI) directive to defer the plan till the matter was reviewed. The tribunal in its order on Friday said that TRAI should investigate the matter and after ensuring the need for natural justice, give the final order as per law as soon as possible. In the case, VIL should be given a chance to explain its position. The Telecom Disputes Settlement and Appellate Tribunal (TDSAT) said that that is why the interim instructions given in the second paragraph of the letter issued by TRAI on July 11 are stayed until further orders. In the letter, TRAI had asked VIL to put a stop to the scheme.

In November last year, Vodafone Idea rolled out the RedX plan, with customers getting 50% faster speed as well as additional services. At the same time last week, Airtel had launched a plan in which the Platinum customer is offered a faster speed. It is believed that both companies have taken this step to increase the number of premium customers, so that income per customer can be increased. However, Jio has opposed this by saying that if certain customers get more better facilities, then it means that less customers are being given more facilities. Jio said that no operator can guarantee the speed under the current conditions. Following the complaint by Jio, TRAI had given an interim decision to stop such premium product, which has been banned by TDSAT today.
