Dot withdraws demand notices on GAIL and OIL

new Delhi. The Department of Telecom has withdrawn the notice demanding Rs 2.3 lakh crore given as telecom dues to the public sector gas company GAIL India Ltd and oil company Oil India Ltd (OIL). Both the companies have given this information in the information given to the stock market. Following the Supreme Court's order of 24 October 2019, the Department of Telecommunications had demanded Rs 1.83 lakh crore from GAIL and Rs 48,489 crore from Oil India. The order asked to include non-telecom revenue such as license fee and spectrum fee of telecom companies in estimation of statutory dues. The court said last month that it is 'completely unfair' to demand arrears in the Adjusted Gross Revenue (AGR) case from non-telecom companies.

The apex court asked the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) to reconsider such demand and now the DoT has withdrawn it. GAIL said that it has received a letter from the Department of Telecommunications dated July 14 asking to withdraw all the demand notices issued to the company. The company said, "After withdrawing the claim, GAIL has nothing outstanding in the AGR case of DoT." Oil India Limited (Oil), in separate notice, said that it received the DoT letter on 13 July. The letter said to withdraw the notice issued during 2007-08 to 2018-19 demanding Rs 48,489.26 crore. Earlier, on Wednesday, Powergrid Corporation also said in a notice to the stock market that the Department of Telecommunications has withdrawn the temporary notice given to the company seeking license fee for the period from 2006-07 to 2018-19. . The company holds 'National Long Distance' (NLD) and Internet Service Provider (ISP) licenses. According to Powergrid, the Department of Telecommunications had demanded Rs 13,613.66 crore as license fee for the period from 2006-07 to 2018-19.
