New Delhi. Japan's automaker Honda on Wednesday (July 15) introduced a new version of its mid-size sedan 'City' in India. It is priced between Rs 10.9 lakh and Rs 14.65 lakh at showrooms in Delhi. The company said that this is the fifth generation version of the popular model 'City'. It is taller and wider than the fourth generation. It has petrol and diesel engines compatible with the new emission standard Bharat Stage-6. In India, it will compete with Hyundai's Verna, Maruti Suzuki's Ciaz and Skoda's Rapid.

The company said that it will also sell the fourth generation BS-6 engine model with this version. "The City is synonymous with the Honda brand in India. It is the most important model for us," said Honda Motor India Limited (HCIL) President and CEO (CEO) Gaku Nakanishi. He said that as a cornerstone of the company's business in India for the last 22 years, it is expected to sell more units of the new city. The company has sold around eight lakh units of the city so far in India. The company has sold 4 million units of the city in 60 countries worldwide.

Nakanishi said that the company will focus on the export of the new city in the domestic market as well as its exports. He said, "Apart from the domestic market, the company is also expanding the city's exports to new markets, including those countries where steering is on the left." And exported about 3,800 units to some neighboring countries.

HCIL Senior Vice President and Director (Sales and Marketing) Rajesh Goyal further said that exports would start later this year. He said, "We cannot disclose the export markets right now, because we have our own plans for everyone. We can tell that exports will also be made to the countries where the steering is on the left." That the new city can be produced at both Greater Noida and Tapukara (Rajasthan) plants. The company said that it is going to start delivery of the petrol model of the new city immediately, while the diesel model will be available from next month.
