new Delhi. Inflation based on the Wholesale Price Index (WPI) declined to 1.81 percent in June 2020 due to the fall in fuel and energy prices, while food items remained expensive during this period. Earlier, wholesale inflation was negative at 3.21 percent in May.
The Ministry of Commerce and Industry said in a statement that the annual inflation rate based on monthly WPI (Wholesale Price Index) has been negative at 1.81 percent for June 2020 as against 2.02 percent in the year-ago period.
Food inflation stood at 2.04 percent during June, as against 1.13 percent in May. Fuel and energy inflation stood at negative 13.60 percent in June 2020 as against negative 19.83 percent in May.
However, inflation in manufactured products increased to 0.08 percent in June, from negative 0.42 percent in May. The ministry said the wholesale price-based inflation for April stood at 1.57 percent.
