Nirav modi’s judicial custody extended

new Delhi. Judicial custody in the UK of fugitive diamond trader Nirav Modi in the PNB fraud case has been extended till August 6. Nirav Modi is being tried in a UK court for extradition to India. It is noteworthy that Nirav Modi committed fraud of nearly two billion dollars with Punjab National Bank (PNB). Various investigative agencies in India have registered cases against it. Nirav's aide Mehul Choksi is also wanted in India in this case. Nirav appeared in Westminster magistrate court in the UK on Thursday for a video conference hearing of the extradition case. He is imprisoned in London's Wandsworth Jail after being arrested in March last year.

Chief Magistrate Emma Arbaughnot informed Nirav during his regular 28-day hearing that his next hearing would be on August 6. The second round of hearing in the extradition case of Nirav Modi is scheduled to begin in September. A four-day hearing of the first phase in the case was held in May under the chairmanship of District Judge Samuel Gooje. Later, due to the lockdown, his second round of five-day hearing was scheduled for September 7. Magistrate Arbaughnott said, "I hope that by the time the next round of hearings begin in September, these restrictions on traveling from prison will be lifted and they will be present in the court themselves so that further action can be taken." During the jail, Nirav Modi was seen noting information related to the case.
