new Delhi. In the midst of the Corona crisis, several important decisions were taken at a meeting of the Union Cabinet on Wednesday (8 July) at the residence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Giving information about the decisions of the Union Cabinet, Union Minister Prakash Javadekar said that the Cabinet has approved the extension of Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Yojana on Wednesday i.e. the scheme will continue from July to November 2020 for the next 5 months. The target is to distribute 20 million tonnes of food grains in the coming 5 months.

The Union Cabinet has approved the development of Affordable Rental Housing Complexes (Affordable Rental Housing Complexes / AHRCs) for urban migrants and the poor under the Pradhan Mantri Urban Housing Scheme. About 3 lakh people will get benefit from it. At the same time, it has been decided to set up one lakh crore infrastructure for agriculture under the self-sufficient scheme, which includes agricultural loans.

Union Minister Prakash Javadekar said that the Union Cabinet has extended the threshold of benefits of "Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Yojana" for Ujjwala beneficiaries from July 1, 2020 for the next three months. The duration of 3 cylinders available under the Ujjwala scheme has now been extended till September. It will cost Rs 13500 crore. At the same time, the cabinet has approved the extension of EPF contribution 24 percent (12 percent employees and 12 percent owners) under Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Yojana / Self-reliant India for 3 months from June to August 2020. With an investment of about 4 thousand 860 crores, 72 lakh workers will get its benefit. Apart from this, the PF of the salaried employee with a monthly salary of Rs 15,000 will be given by the government.

The Union Cabinet gave its approval to infuse Rs 12,450 crore in three public sector general insurance companies, Oriental Insurance Company Limited, National Insurance Company Limited and United India Insurance Company Limited. This amount also includes an amount of Rs 2,500 crore put in the financial year 2019-20.
