TikTok says it will exit Hong Kong market within days

Hong Kong: After Facebook, WhatsApp, Telegram, Google and Twitter, TikTok, a short video app, also questioned the national security law, saying on Tuesday that it too was going to stop its services in Hong Kong for the time being. This controversial law was enacted in Hong Kong last week. Facebook, WhatsApp and Telegram had already stated that they would not accept requests from law enforcement agencies for user data.

Social media companies say they are assessing the implications of the security law that prohibits what Beijing sees as separatist, subversive or terrorist activities or foreign interference in the city's internal affairs.

Ticktock said in a statement that it has decided to stop its services in view of recent activities. In Hong Kong, the police are empowered under this national security law, which will allow them to carry out other actions, including conducting searches without warrants, preventing suspects from leaving the city, and disrupting communications.
