Union Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Narendra Singh Tomar said that with the formation of 10,000 new Farmers Producer Organizations (FPOs), new avenues of development will open in the country. He said that 60 percent of the farmers in the country have small holdings and they are small and marginal farmers who will strengthen the rural economy through these FPOs, which will not only help in the progress of agriculture, but also in the development of the country. New routes will also open.

Tomar addressed a meeting of Laghu Udyog Bharti and Sahakar Bharti through video conferencing in which Minister of State for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Purushottam Rupala and Kailash Chaudhary and Union Minister of State for Water Resources Arjun Meghwal were also present. Union Minister Tomar said that initially the minimum number of members in FPO will be 300 in Terai region and 100 in North-East and hilly areas.

He said that through the FPOs being formed for small, marginal and landless farmers, various challenges of the agricultural sector will be effectively dealt with and farmers will be more empowered.

He said that the activities of FPOs will be managed in such a way that members can get technical information, good market for finance and yield and better prices. Tomar said, "This will realize Prime Minister Narendra Modi's dream of doubling farmers' income by 2022. The FPO will help in reducing production costs and marketing costs, as well as the plan to improve productivity in agriculture and horticulture sector." It will also help in improving. "

He said that the processing sector will also improve in the country and with the increase in income of farmers, there will be extensive improvement in the rural economy and employment opportunities will also be created. Tomar stated that the budget 2020-21 also proposes a cluster-based strategy for horticultural produce through a 'one district-one product' strategy to promote value addition, marketing and exports.
