Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana: 200 lakh tons of food grains will be needed in 5 months, know how much is stock

Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Yojana will requir 20 million tons grain for 5 months

new Delhi. To make the poor not hungry due to Corona epidemic, the central government has announced to give 5 kg of wheat or rice and 1 kg of gram and free to 80 crore people of the country every month under the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Yojana and by the end of November the government Will give it all for free. But the big question is whether the government has so much stock that it can provide 80 kg people with 5 kg of wheat or one kg of gram with rice for 5 months for free?

If we look at the food grains lying in the government's grain godowns, then it seems that the government has prepared this in advance and only after preparation, Prime Minister Modi announced to give 80 crore poor to ration free every month till the end of November. is. This year the government has procured record breaking wheat, rice and gram from the farmers of the country so that the need of the poor can be met.

First, let's talk about wheat and rice. Prime Minister Modi has announced that 80 crore people will be given 5 kg of wheat or 5 kg of rice every month. That is, about 40 lakh tonnes of food grains will be needed every month and about 200 lakh tonnes of grains will be needed in 5 months. According to the Food Corporation of India, the government's grain stock was lying at around 558 lakh tonnes of wheat and about 294 lakh tonnes of rice till June 1, and during June, the wheat stock has increased even more, while the rice stock has decreased slightly. In total, about 833 lakh tonnes of wheat and rice have been recorded in the government stock till June 1. New rice will start coming to government warehouses from September, after which the rice stock will increase even more. That is, the government as a whole has sufficient stocks of wheat and rice for the Prime Minister Poor Kalyan Anna Yojana.

Now speaking of gram, the government has announced to give 1 kg of gram to 80 crore people every month. That is, about 8 lakh tonnes of gram will be required every month. The government has already purchased about 21 lakh tonnes of gram from farmers, which will fulfill the requirement of about 3 months and will need to buy additional gram for the remaining 2 months.

About 90 thousand crore rupees will be spent on the central government to cover the cost of this scheme, and if we add the expenses of the last 3 months, then it costs about 1.5 lakh crores rupees. Farmers and tax payers have helped the central government the most in implementing this scheme for the welfare of the poor. Prime Minister Modi himself has observed this while announcing the plan.
