Reliance Jio added 62.5 lakh new subscribers in February, Vodafone-Idea subscribed 34.6 lakh subscribers

Vodafone Idea loses 34.6 lakh subscribers in Feb; Jio adds 62.5 lakh users

Reliance Jio has maintained its record by adding 62.57 lakh new subscribers in February this year, while the number of subscribers of Vodafone Idea has decreased by 34.67 lakh during this period. This information has been obtained from the latest data released by telecom regulator TRAI. The total number of mobile users of Jio increased to 38.28 crore in February. Bharti Airtel acquired 9.2 lakh new subscribers in February 2020 and its total number of consumers increased to 32.90 crore.

Government telecom company Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has also been successful in getting 4.39 lakh new subscribers during February. Reliance Jio holds 32.9 per cent, Bharti Airtel with 28.35 per cent and Vodafone Idea with 28 per cent if market share is seen in wireless service till 29 February 2020. Jio added the highest number of 62.57 lakh new subscribers during February, followed by Bharti Airtel with 9.2 lakh customers.

On the other hand, Vodafone Idea has lost 34.6 lakh subscribers during this period. The total number of telephone subscribers in India (including both landline and mobile) stood at 118 crore by the end of February. It has increased by 0.32 percent since January. TRAI said the number of urban consumers declined marginally to 66.1 crore at the end of February, but the number of rural customers increased to 51.9 crore. The total number of wireless subscribers (2G, 3G and 4G) increased to 116 crore at the end of February.

TRAI said the broadband subscriber base in the country increased to 681 million by the end of February in terms of data received from 341 operators in February and registered a growth of 1.15 per cent over January. The top 5 service providers have a 98.99 percent share in the total broadband market. These include Reliance Jio Infocomm's subscriber base of 38.367 crores, Bharti Airtel's 14.610 crores, Vodafone Idea's 11.825 crores and BSNL's 2.467 crores.
