Government approves export of PPE medical kits, fixed 50 lakhs quota per month


Govt allows export PPE medical coveralls; monthly quota fixed at 50 lakh

new Delhi. The central government has relaxed the export regulations for medical supplies personal protective equipment (PPE) kits associated with Kovid-19. Permission has been granted to export 50 lakh units of this kit monthly. The export of this product was completely banned till now, but now it has been put in the banned list of exports.

The PPE kit is worn by medical personnel engaged in the treatment of Kovid-19 infected people to prevent the spread of infection. The Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) has said in a notification that 50 lakh PPE medical equipment export quota has been fixed for Kovid-19 units.

This quota was fixed for the issuance of export licenses for eligible units exporting PPE medical equipment. A separate trade notice will be issued for its eligibility criteria. It states that other parts associated with the PPE kit will remain on the prohibition list. Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal tweeted that the export of manufactured goods in India is being encouraged. Kovid – 19, during the treatment of PPE medical kit, monthly export quota was fixed, allowing export.

It is notable that MSME Minister Nitin Gadkari on Saturday requested the Commerce Ministry to allow the export of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) kits. He argued that because now they are producing more in the country, exports should be allowed.

Now MSME industries (micro, small and medium industries) of the country are producing millions of PPE kits every day. He said that people are getting orders for PPE kits from Dubai, Canada, USA and European countries. Recently, AEPC, the body of apparel export industry, also urged the government to lift the ban on export of PPE kits.
