Lucknow. In Uttar Pradesh, the Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath government has decided not to install Chinese smart meters in the homes of electricity consumers in the state. With this decision of the state government, the contract awarded to the Chinese company will be canceled, which will cause a big loss. UP Power Corporation reported that the Chinese company Hexing, which is a black listed company in some countries, registered the company in Indonesia by another name to receive the tender and won the tender. After knowing about the fraud, UP Power Corporation has decided to cancel the contract.
Awadhesh Kumar Verma, chairman of the State Electricity Consumers' Council, had met with the Minister of Energy Shrikant Sharma and objected to the installation of electricity meters supplied by the Indonesia based Chinese company.
He started Energy Efficiency Services Ltd, a central government undertaking. (EESL) had also demanded to return the purchased meters and cancel the order. In this case, the Energy Minister had given instructions to the Additional Chief Secretary Energy for investigation, after which this major decision was taken.
It is noteworthy that 8000 Chinese smart meters of PT Hexing Company had reached Lucknow but now instructions have been issued not to install these meters at consumers. After the border dispute between India and China, it is considered to be a big decision of the UP government. In addition, the Department of Energy will not use equipment manufactured in China for transmission and production as well as for any purpose. Not only this, the smart meters provided by Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL) for Uttar Pradesh and purchased from Indonesia have also been banned from consumers' homes. The Indonesian company supplying these meters is said to be originally from China.
