Tea export dip by 5.6 percent in last fiscal

new Delhi. Tea exports fell by 5.6 percent to 24 crore kg in the last financial year 2019-20. In the previous fiscal, tea exports stood at 25.45 million kg. This information is given in the figures of Tea Board. According to the data, exports to the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS countries) declined marginally to 59.4 million kg, from 6.07 million kg in the previous financial year 2018-19. Sources in the Tea Board said that tea exports have declined due to sluggishness in economies across the world. Iran is the second largest buyer of Indian tea. Tea exports to Iran reached 46.4 million kg. In the previous fiscal, tea exports to Iran stood at 41 million kg. Similarly, tea exports to China increased from 1.05 million kg to 12.7 million kg. However, there has been a big drop in tea exports to neighboring country Pakistan. Exports to Pakistan stood at 3.3 million kg, up from 1.46 million kg in the previous financial year.

Apart from this, tea is also exported to USA, UK and United Arab Emirates (UAE). Meanwhile, in the last month of the last financial year, tea production fell sharply to 434 million kg. Tea production in March 2018 was 7.45 million kg.
