per drop more crop scheme

new Delhi. In the current financial year, the Central Government has allocated Rs 4000 crore to the states as an annual allocation under the 'Per Drop More Crop' scheme to achieve higher yields by using less water. This information was given by the Union Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare on Wednesday. The 'Drop More Crop' program, a part of the Prime Minister's Agricultural Irrigation Scheme, aims to benefit more by using less water in the fields through micro irrigation technology such as drip and sprinkler irrigation systems.

According to agricultural scientists, this method of irrigation not only saves water but also reduces the consumption of fertilizer as well as the cost of wages, which reduces the cost of farming and increases the yield. The Ministry of Agriculture said that the states have been made aware of the amount allocated under this program.

Apart from this, a micro-irrigation fund of Rs 5000 crore has been created with the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD). This fund will be used to promote special and innovative micro irrigation projects. So far, Rs 616.14 crore has been released from Andhra Pradesh to Micro Irrigation Fund and Rs 478.79 crore to Tamil Nadu through NABARD.
