MP surpasses Punjab in wheat procurement

In the case of sending more wheat to the government godowns, Madhya Pradesh has abolished the long-running state of Punjab and has now become the largest wheat-giving state in the central pool. So far this year, 127.7 lakh tonnes of wheat has been purchased from Madhya Pradesh in the total wheat procurement across the country, which is the highest in any state. So far this year, 127.12 lakh tonnes of wheat has been purchased from Punjab and Punjab has slipped to second place after Madhya Pradesh.

Till now, Punjab was the largest wheat-giving state in government warehouses across the country, Haryana's contribution was predominant in addition to Punjab, but Madhya Pradesh has emerged rapidly in the last few years, behind Haryana in wheat procurement and now Punjab After finishing the first position.

According to Food Corporation of India data, more than 373 lakh tonnes of wheat has been purchased from farmers across the country so far this year. Wheat procurement from farmers is the second largest purchase so far this year and has gone up by about 3.2 million tonnes over the previous year. Last year, 341.33 lakh tonnes of wheat was purchased across the country, of which 129.12 lakh tonnes were procured from Punjab. Last year, only 67.25 lakh tonnes of wheat was purchased from farmers in Madhya Pradesh, that is, the procurement of wheat in Madhya Pradesh so far this year has been increased by 89 percent.

The highest procurement of wheat from farmers across the country was done in the year 2012-13 when a total of 381.48 lakh tonnes of wheat was purchased from farmers. This year, wheat procurement from farmers in Punjab and Haryana is nearing an end, but in Uttar Pradesh, procurement is currently in full swing and it is expected that this year the record of wheat procurement may be broken. So far, 73.98 lakh tonnes of wheat has been purchased from farmers in Haryana, 27.50 lakh tonnes in Uttar Pradesh and 16.03 lakh tonnes in Rajasthan this year.
