Last year, 341.33 lakh tonnes of wheat was purchased across the country, of which 129.12 lakh tonnes were procured from Punjab. Last year, only 67.25 lakh tonnes of wheat was purchased from farmers in Madhya Pradesh, that is, the procurement of wheat in Madhya Pradesh so far this year has been increased by 89 percent.
The highest procurement of wheat from farmers across the country was done in the year 2012-13 when a total of 381.48 lakh tonnes of wheat was purchased from farmers. This year, wheat procurement from farmers in Punjab and Haryana is nearing an end, but in Uttar Pradesh, procurement is currently in full swing and it is expected that this year the record of wheat procurement may be broken. So far, 73.98 lakh tonnes of wheat has been purchased from farmers in Haryana, 27.50 lakh tonnes in Uttar Pradesh and 16.03 lakh tonnes in Rajasthan this year.
