new Delhi. The government has started searching for an eligible person for the post of Chief (Chairperson) of Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI). This post is going to be vacant from October 1. The tenure of the current head of TRAI RS Sharma is to end on 30 September.
The government invited applications from qualified candidates, saying that the tenure would not be more than three years or more than 65 years of age. The Department of Telecommunications said that the post of chairman would be vacant from October 1, 2020.
He said that the candidate should have special knowledge or professional experience in telecommunications, industry, finance, accounting, law, management or consumer affairs. Apart from the applications received, the search cum selection committee will have the right to consider any other name for appointment to the said post.
RS Sharma was appointed as TRAI head in July 2015 for a period of three years. Later in August 2018, the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet approved the reappointment of him by 30 September 2020. Sharma will turn 65 on 30 September 2020.
